A mother is speaking out after alleging that heavily armed police officers have repeatedly entered or operated around her property, leaving her fearful that her 11-year-old autistic son could one day be mistaken for a threat.
The woman, whose identity is being withheld to protect the privacy of her child, says she has repeatedly raised concerns with authorities about the potential danger posed by armed operations near her home, but fears her warnings have gone unheard.
According to the mother, her son is 11 years old and has autism, ADHD, and Tourette syndrome. She says his conditions affect his understanding of danger and make it difficult for him to remain indoors for extended periods.

“He doesn’t understand,” the mother said. “He’s supposed to be scared to come out of his own house because police are outside with guns? He can’t do that. He opens the door, walks outside, runs around. That’s what he does.”
She said her greatest fear is that officers unfamiliar with her son’s disabilities could misinterpret his behaviour during one of their operations.
“My fear is that one day he runs outside while they’re doing whatever they’re doing, and they shoot him,” she said. “What am I supposed to do?”
The mother alleges that officers have conducted armed operations around her property on multiple occasions despite there being, in her words, “no criminal activity” taking place at her home and yard.
She claims there have been instances where she unexpectedly found armed officers in or around her yard, forcing her to rush outside after her son because she feared he could unknowingly encounter them.
According to the mother, officers have pointed firearms in the direction of her property during these operations. She says her concern is not with police carrying out legitimate law enforcement duties, but with what she believes is the unnecessary use of heavily armed tactics in an area where her disabled child lives.
“I understand police have a job to do,” she said. “But if there is no crime happening on my property, why are guns being pointed into my yard?”
The mother says she has informed the relevant authorities about her son’s medical conditions and the risks she believes these operations create. Despite doing so, she alleges the armed activity has continued.
She says her son cannot always recognize danger or follow instructions in the same way another child might.
“He has autism. He has ADHD. He has Tourette syndrome,” she said. “He doesn’t understand what’s happening. He just wants to go outside and play.”
The situation, she says, has left her living in constant fear that an encounter between her son and armed officers could end in tragedy.
Her concerns also raise broader questions about how law enforcement agencies interact with individuals living with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Advocates have long emphasized that many people on the autism spectrum may not respond immediately to commands, may avoid eye contact, make sudden movements, or become overwhelmed during stressful encounters. Experts say these behaviours can sometimes be misunderstood if officers are not aware of a person’s condition.
For this mother, however, the issue is deeply personal.
She says every time officers conduct armed operations near her home, she worries that her son could unknowingly walk into the middle of the situation.
“What am I supposed to do?” she asked. “I’m scared that one day he goes outside at the wrong time, and something terrible happens.”
At the time of publication, the allegations made by the mother had not been independently verified, and there has been no public response from the relevant law enforcement authorities regarding her claims.
She did however, shared a very concerning video with our newsroom as documented proof of facts regarding her son.
