A family in North Caicos is speaking out after an incident at a local grocery store reportedly led to them being told not to return to the establishment following an accident involving a four-year-old child.
The matter surfaced during a conversation shared with Eagle Legal News, in which a woman detailed what she described as an uncomfortable and troubling experience involving her young daughter at a grocery store in North Caicos. According to the female, the incident began when the child urgently needed to use a restroom while inside the business.

She explained that the store allegedly did not provide restroom access for customers, forcing the family into a difficult situation. She said the child was unable to hold her bladder, and an adult accompanying her reportedly gave the child a box so she could relieve herself inside the store rather than suffer further discomfort.
According to the woman, the child urinated in the box, which was then reportedly left behind unintentionally as the family exited the establishment. She claimed the situation later escalated when police allegedly contacted the family after the business owner made a report claiming the incident caused damage to the store’s flooring.
The woman expressed disbelief that such serious action would be taken over what she described as a minor accident involving a young child.
“A four-year-old child,” she repeatedly emphasized during the conversation, questioning how much damage could realistically have been caused.
However, before our publication of the allegations, the grocery store owner, Eagle Legal News contacted the store owner in North Caicos and he disputed portions of the family’s account.
According to the business owner, store employees informed the family that the establishment does not provide public restroom access, a policy he says is common among stores on the island. He alleged that after being denied restroom access, the adults accompanying the child searched through bins near the front of the store before removing a box and placing it in the middle of the supermarket floor for the child to urinate in.
The owner further claimed that after the family left the premises, employees discovered urine leaking from the box onto the floor and were forced to clean and sanitize the area.
“That is a place where you sell food,” the owner stated while explaining why police were contacted following the incident.
According to the owner, police advised that charges relating to malicious damage could potentially have been pursued. However, he stated that he declined to press charges and instead requested only that the individuals be formally warned not to return to the property.
“I ain’t looking for no problem with nobody,” the owner said. “All I asked was for the police to tell them not to be found back on my premises.”
The business owner also alleged that there had been previous issues involving the individuals at the store and claimed employees had experienced disrespectful behavior during prior interactions.
Additionally, the owner disputed suggestions that his store was uniquely lacking restroom facilities, stating that several businesses in North Caicos also do not provide public bathroom access for customers.
The issue has since sparked broader discussion in the community surrounding customer restroom access, particularly for children, elderly residents, and individuals with medical conditions.
During the discussion, concerns were raised about whether businesses that serve the public should be required to provide some form of restroom accommodation for customers. The woman argued that the lack of accessible restroom facilities creates hardship, especially in situations where individuals may have urgent medical or physical needs.
The conversation also touched on frustrations among some residents regarding shopping conditions and customer service standards on the island. Reference was made to previous complaints circulating within the community concerning allegedly expired products being sold in stores, though no evidence was presented during the conversation to substantiate those claims against any specific business.
Our Investigative Journalist conducting the interview on behalf of Eagle Legal News advise the woman that the business owner should be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations before any final conclusions are drawn, noting that balanced reporting requires hearing all sides involved.
At this time, Eagle Legal News has not independently verified all claims made by either party involved in the matter.
The incident has already generated debate among residents, with many weighing the balance between maintaining sanitary business conditions and showing compassion in situations involving small children and emergencies.
No charges or legal proceedings has been brought forward up to press time.
