A man is in critical condition following a stabbing at a reported barbershop in The Bight, Providenciales, in the presence of a baby in his father’s arm, according to information received and a video shared with Eagle Legal News.
The victim, a Haitian man, was rushed to hospital after the incident. Sources said arrangements are now being made for him to be transferred to the Dominican Republic for further emergency medical care.

The alleged attacker has been identified by sources as a Turks and Caicos Islander. Eagle Legal News has been informed that the man has a history of serious mental-health challenges.
The incident has again brought into focus the urgent need for a properly equipped mental-health facility in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The territory has the Center Of Hope in Grand Turk, but it is not designed or resourced as a full-scale psychiatric treatment facility for people experiencing severe or complex mental-health conditions. For serious cases, there are limited options locally, and families, authorities and medical providers may be forced to seek treatment overseas or respond only after a crisis has escalated.

There have been previous violent incidents in the territory in which concerns were raised about individuals living with serious mental-health challenges. These cases point to a wider public-health and public-safety issue that cannot continue to be ignored.
Turks and Caicos needs a mental-health system and facility with the capacity to provide emergency assessments, crisis intervention, inpatient treatment, ongoing psychiatric care and support for families. Early intervention and sustained treatment are essential—not only for those living with mental illness, but for the safety and wellbeing of the wider community.
Mental-health challenges do not automatically make someone violent. However, when people with severe conditions are left without appropriate treatment, supervision or crisis support, the consequences can be devastating.
Eagle Legal News will continue to follow this developing story and continue to advocate for a facility beyond Center of Hope that is limited in Grand Turk
