Residents in the Turtle Tail of Venetian Road area are expressing concern following a serious traffic accident that left two Canadian visitors hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Our newsroom was contacted shortly after the incident earlier this week by residents in the area, including someone who drove across while the victims were down in serious pain. We were told that the water truck had struck two pedestrians while they were walking along Venetian Road.
When our team later visited the area, we observed the police had been there carrying out measurements as there were examining markings left on the roadway as investigations continued.
According to information gathered, the accident involved a white Chevrolet water truck belonging to a local water delivery company. The vehicle reportedly struck a man and woman couple while they were walking along the roadside close to a curve or corner on the road.
The couple, both Canadian nationals, sustained very serious injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
According to those that we spoke to, the man had a broken arm, bleeding from his upper body with injuries to his leg. The woman leg was broken leg, arm broken, obvious signs of bleeding about her body and several additional injuries to different parts of her body.
Observers said that, the driver run and left the scene following the collision but sometime later he came back. It was further revealed that the individual allegedly did not possess a valid Turks and Caicos Islands driver’s license at the time of the alleged accident.
Residents familiar with the stretch of road say visibility around certain bends can be dangerous, especially at night, and noted that pedestrians are often forced off the road when vehicles approaching.
The matter remains under investigation.
