When it comes to celebrity ambassadors for the Turks and Caicos Islands, few names carry the global influence of Canadian music superstar Drake.
Over the years, the Grammy-winning rapper has developed a well-documented connection to the Turks and Caicos Islands, making frequent visits to the destination and repeatedly referencing the islands in his music. In doing so, Drake has helped introduce millions of fans around the world to a destination that has become synonymous with luxury, privacy and Caribbean beauty.
For many international listeners, their first exposure to Turks and Caicos may have come through a Drake lyric.

The artist has referenced “Turks” and “Turks and Caicos” in several songs throughout his career, often portraying the islands as a getaway destination for relaxation, success and exclusive living. Those references have become part of popular culture, helping cement the territory’s reputation as one of the Caribbean’s premier vacation destinations.
Social media discussions among Drake fans frequently point to the rapper’s mentions of Turks and Caicos as the reason many became curious about the islands in the first place. Some fans have even credited his music with inspiring them to add the destination to their travel bucket lists.
Drake’s connection to the islands extends beyond song lyrics. The superstar has been spotted in Turks and Caicos on numerous occasions over the years, often choosing the destination for private vacations away from the spotlight. His visits have generated international media attention, with entertainment outlets regularly reporting on his time in the territory.
The relationship between celebrities and tourism destinations is not new, but in the age of social media, the impact can be significant. With hundreds of millions of followers across various platforms and one of the most recognizable brands in music, Drake’s association with Turks and Caicos provides exposure that many destinations spend millions of dollars trying to achieve through traditional marketing campaigns.
His influence comes at a time when Turks and Caicos continues to experience strong growth as a luxury tourism destination. The islands have recorded increasing visitor arrivals in recent years and have strengthened their reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most sought-after vacation spots.
But according to local entrepreneur Rynie Campbell, owner of Shisha Lounge, Drake’s impact goes far beyond publicity and destination marketing.
In an exclusive interview with Eagle Legal News, Campbell said the global superstar has played a significant role in driving visitors to the islands and creating economic opportunities for local businesses.
“This man doesn’t come here and spend one dollar,” Campbell said while describing the broader economic footprint associated with Drake’s visits. According to Campbell, every visit generates activity for transportation providers, hospitality workers, restaurants and a range of service-based businesses that benefit from the presence of high-profile visitors and the travelers they inspire.
Campbell pointed to the network of local drivers, hospitality professionals and service providers who are often engaged during Drake’s stays, creating employment opportunities and injecting money into the local economy. He noted that transportation services, restaurant operators and other tourism-related businesses often benefit from the increased attention that accompanies the artist’s presence on the islands.
The businessman also believes Drake has helped attract a demographic of visitors who may not have otherwise considered Turks and Caicos as a vacation destination.
According to Campbell, many Black American and Canadian travelers, as well as visitors from other parts of the world, have become increasingly interested in Turks and Caicos because of Drake’s long-standing association with the islands. Conversations with customers at his establishment frequently reveal that the artist’s connection to the destination influenced their decision to visit.
“Because of Drake, Shisha Lounge exists,” Campbell said. “A lot of people come here because of him.”
Campbell explained that many of those visitors eventually find their way to local businesses such as Shisha Lounge, where they spend money, interact with residents and contribute to the local economy. Some, he said, arrive hoping they might catch a glimpse of the superstar or visit places associated with him.
“I talk to customers all the time, and many of them tell me Drake is one of the reasons they wanted to come to Turks and Caicos,” Campbell said. “A lot of visitors come here with the hope of running into him or experiencing the same destination they see him enjoying.”
Industry observers note that celebrity visitors play an important role in shaping global perceptions of destinations. When high-profile figures repeatedly choose the same location for vacations, it sends a powerful message to potential travelers about the quality and exclusivity of the experience.
For Turks and Caicos, Drake’s ongoing affection for the islands has become part of a broader story that includes world-class beaches, luxury resorts and a growing international profile.

While tourism officials have invested heavily in promoting the destination, some of the most valuable publicity has come organically through celebrities who genuinely enjoy spending time in the islands. Drake remains among the most prominent of those visitors.
Campbell believes that recognition should not go unnoticed and our goverment should help support this.
“He should be considered an ambassador for Turks and Caicos,” Campbell said. “Nobody can afford the kind of promotion Drake brings to these islands. What he has done for Turks and Caicos, from a visibility standpoint, is something very few people can match.”
According to Campbell, the exposure generated through Drake’s music, social media presence and repeated visits has delivered international attention that many destinations spend years and millions of dollars trying to achieve.
Whether arriving for a private escape, enjoying time on the water, supporting local businesses through the economic activity his visits generate, or dropping another reference in a chart-topping song, the global music icon continues to keep Turks and Caicos in conversations far beyond the Caribbean.
And for a destination that thrives on international visibility, that kind of recognition is difficult to measure—but impossible to ignore.
