A man remains hospitalized in critical condition following a serious single-vehicle crash along Leeward Highway Thursday night.

Eagle Legal News was contacted shortly after 9 p.m. by several individuals in the area who reported hearing a loud impact near the vicinity of Corey’s Funeral Home. Residents and passing motorists told our newsroom that the driver of an SUV appeared to have been travelling at a very high speed before losing control and crashing violently into a wall.

According to information gathered at the scene, the vehicle involved was a grey Suzuki Grand Vitara travelling east along Leeward Highway when the driver reportedly veered off the roadway and collided with the wall with such force that he was allegedly thrown through or ejected out the windshield.

Videos and photographs shared with Eagle Legal News showed the heavily damaged SUV along the roadside as emergency responders and investigators worked the scene. Evidence markings could also be seen on the roadway while officers conducted measurements late into the night.

One eyewitness told our news team he noticed what appeared to be a cloud of smoke ahead while driving along the highway and, upon approaching, observed the SUV damaged in the roadway and the driver lying near the wall the vehicle had struck.

Another nearby resident stated that moments before the crash she heard what sounded like a dragging before the vehicle slammed into the wall outside in the vicinity of her property.

Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the injured driver to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre. Sources indicate the man suffered severe injuries, including to the face, cuts, lacerations, and multiple bodily injuries. Up to press time, he remained hospitalized in serious condition.

The investigations into the crash continues.
