MOTHER STILL CALLING FOR ANSWERS ONE YEAR AFTER 7-Y-O’S DEATH
Tuesday 19th May, 2026 – Turks and Caicos Islands
A mother whose seven year old son was killed after being struck by a car near his home is calling for transparency and accountability from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) as she says she has received little to no communication from them regarding her son’s death after an entire year.

“As a mother seeking answers about her child, I deserve transparency, accountability, and basic respect. The ongoing delays, lack of follow-up, and poor communication are unacceptable,” the woman said.
Noting that she had tried to be patient and respectful, the Leeward Palms mother said this had been met with poor communication on the issue.
“Since my son’s death, I have received little to no meaningful communication from the police and the traffic department. I am the one constantly calling, following up, and asking for updates only to be given repeated assurances that someone will call before the week is out. That call has yet to come,” she told Eagle Legal News recently.
Reports from the RTCIPF on the incident say Adoni Garland was killed on May 18, 2025 after he unexpectedly ran into the path of a car driven by a 43-year-old woman.
Garland was rushed to hospital by his father but succumbed to injuries.
The grieving mother said since then she has been told multiple times that a road traffic expert would be brought in for consultation but no one has been forthcoming. Eagle Legal News was advised that the expert did arrived recently but no finding revealed to the mother.
“Initially, it was said the expert would come from the United States (US) or Canada. Now I am being told it will be someone from within the Caribbean. Regardless of the source, no expert report or findings has been made available to me, and no progress has been clearly communicated,” she lamented.
In addition the woman detailed that communication issues have also arisen between herself and the traffic department/the investigating officer. She described instances where her calls do not go through from her primary number, which she said has forced her to use alternative means just to reach someone.
“This should not be happening,” she maintained, adding “At this stage, I am formally calling for clear updates, a defined timeline, and proper engagement from the relevant authorities.”
The mother noted that if the situation continues without resolution, she would have no choice but to escalate the matter.
“All I ever wanted was answers for my son. Instead, I’ve been given nothing but frustration and pain. Do better,” she urged.
Eagle Legal News has tried to follow up on the matter with the RTCIPF on multiple occasions however no response has been forthcoming.
The mother’s final question, one year later is will charges be laid against the Guyanese Woman who killed her child?
